Stay connected with us...
On an uneventful day in March this year I received a call from an artist, Gary Carsley, who would like to meet with the OWLS with a request to invite the use of our lace into his new installation at Lewers Gallery, Emu Plains. Fine, say the OWLS so Gary and his fellow artist Renjie Teoh met us and discussed their vision. No matter what they described we were having trouble understanding the concept of Parlour, Parleur. They wanted to learn the procedure of lace making so that their understanding of the time and complexity of lace making became clearer. They were a little surprised that two movements could be so frustrating. So after many month of confusion on both sides , opening day arrived. It was a full house on the day with much excitement and interest. Some of the OWLS were in attendance demonstrating what we do best. The installation was over three rooms and is hard to describe. It tells of community, love, loss as only an artist can. I would have to say to me it looked like the ruins of some ancient building showing some of the beauty of its past. Too big to photograph in total so I have included Helen Mewett and her piece displayed in the piece. It is however open for display until mid December if anyone would like to see it. As it is distant from many of you I recommend you have refreshments at the café to prepare for the trip home.
